Dr. Hajela also served in the Canadian Forces from 1979 to 1995, reaching the rank of Major in 1987. He is a Certified Medical Review Officer (CMRO) and has been a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner (CAME) in the past. Dr. Hajela has held faculty appointments in Family Medicine and Psychiatry at Queen’s University (1992-2001) and has taught medical students and residents at the University of Toronto, Queen’s University and the University of Calgary. Dr. Hajela has held several leadership positions in national and international medical organizations and has received numerous honours and awards for his leadership and community work. p2Raju Hajela, MD, MPH, CCSAM, FASAM, FCFP, attended Dalhousie University – Faculty of Medicine in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and was awarded his medical degree in 1982. He then served his addiction medicine and family and community health residency training at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Hajela also holds a Master degree of Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health, acquired in 1988, and completed his training in Maharishi Ayurveda in 1994. Board certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine, he maintains active professional memberships with the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the International Society of Addiction Medicine, the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine, the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Public Health Association, the Ontario Medical Association, and Alberta Medical Association.
